When you have decided to start a home-based business, naturally you will face with your first dilemma: “What kind of home-based business am I going to run?”
There are literally thousands of opportunities for home-based business. You can choose to sell physical products, or offer your services or skill. You can also run online business, such as online affiliate marketing or selling your own e-books.
Basically, home-based businesses offer incredible flexibility and options. In fact, the number of opportunities for home-based businesses are increasing! However, it is also due to the abundance of choices laid in front of you, it can actually cause you to lose your way.
Perhaps the best question to ask yourself - and get it answered - is: “What do I really want to do?”, instead of “What should I do?”, “What could I do?”, or “What’s the best thing to do?”.
Below are some questions that may help you find your direction when you answer them as honestly as possible.
(The questions below are simplified from the book “Home-Based Business For Dummies“.)
What do you really like to do?
- What does your ideal day look like?
- What is your perfect job?
- What do you want to do do everyday?
- How do you want to spend your time?
- Who do you want to work with?
- What are your favorite tasks to do at work, and why?
- What was your most enjoyable work experience?
- What are your favorite activities to do away from work, and why?
- What strengths do you bring to your dream job?
- What knowledge or skill or experience gaps that you need to fill to start working in your dream job?
What do you really dislike doing?
- What is the worst job for you?
- Who would be the people you’re working with?
- What would you be doing everyday?
- How would you be spending your time?
- What was your most unenjoyable work experience?
- What is your least favorite task to do at work, and why?
- What is your least favorite task to do away from work, and why?
By answering the questions above, you will be able to see more clearly hat you really want to do and don’t want to do. Use those answers to guide your choices when deciding which type of home-based business to start. The point is to bring you closer to the tasks you enjoy doing, and are able to do them at work! When running a business based on your passion or a skill that you are really good at, you are more likely to put in extra effort and have the determination to bring it to a success.

I tend to agree. Sometimes when we are into our own program so much, we forget that there are others out there that also work! So Be blessed… and realize we really are all here for the same reasons. To make some great money!!!
Hi Jackie! Yes, people tend to follow the crowd (that includes me, I admit!). I think this is after all a learning process. Sooner or later, people will realize what is best for them and be able to find their own path to success. If there is a will, there is a way!
