Blogging Series #1: Blog to boost business and make money

‘Blog’ is short for web log, and blogging, the activity of writing on a blog, has been practiced for many years. Blogs have been more commonly used as a form of online journal, a platform for people to share things going about in their life, an outlet for emotions and feelings, or simply a record of daily incidences. Today, savvy marketers are using blogging as one of their most powerful internet marketing tools that cost them very little.

If you are running an internet business, blogging for your internet business is one way to boost the visibility of your products and services, and thus bringing your business to another level. A blog allows internet business owners to:

1. Keep their clients or customers abreast of any updates on their website.
2. Announce the launch of their new products or services.
3. Keep track of their business objectives and plans through open writing.
4. Let their customers or anybody browsing the web to easily search for information through the blog content.
5. Air opinions, advice or reviews on specific services or products that are related to their business.
6. Include links in their blog that will fetch back links and subsequently improve their ranking on search engines.
7. Insert affiliate links to earn extra income.
8. Collect feedback from their blog readers, through which they can learn and improve their products and services.

Even if you don’t have an internet business running, but if you are already spending a fair amount of time blogging, your blog can become a source for supplementary income. Once you have an established blog with a regular readership, it is easy to make a profit through advertising, e.g. by hosting sponsored links or banners, pay-per-click advertising, etc.

The amount of money that you can make as a blogger depends on a variety of factors. One of the most influencing factor is the topic of your blog. If your blog is on a subject that appeals to a demographic that advertisers have a strong desire to reach, you will be more likely to be able to draw a large profit from your blog. Of course, this is only one amongst the many factors determining the money-making potential of your blog. Other aspects, such as blog traffic and search engine optimization, also play a vital part in the success as well as the ‘profitability’ of a blog.
