There are so many blogs and web sites about blogs on the internet today. If you don’t know how to set up a Wordpress blog, for instance, just run a search for it whether on Google, MSN or Yahoo, you will find literally thousands of blogs or sites that are able to provide you with answers and instructions to solve your problem.
Just like what I’m doing now, blogging about blogging. I’m practically competing with thousands or millions of bloggers out there to gain your attention. This is tough, and therefore rasies the question: how to make your blog stand out and distinguishable from all of the others, be it a blog or website about blogging or any other topics?
After reading so many e-books and looking at what other successful (i.e. making money) bloggers do with their blogs, I learned that, if you intend to blog for money, the key to building and maintaining a blog that captures the interest and attention of the readers is finding your niche. Blogging for fun or for personal ‘emotional satisfaction’ is totally a different matter, you probably won’t care if there is anybody reading your blog. Surely, what issues you want to blog or if the blog makes money is of no concern to you at all.
The point is, if you can fill a unique need in a way that no other blogs do, you’ll be able to build a lasting readership among your site visitors. Of course, work does not stop after you found your niche. In fact, it is just the beginning. There is still a lot to do, but finding your place in the blogosphere is the place to begin.
Every great blog starts with a great idea, and you can’t build a successful blog without one. To make your blogging site stand out from the pack, you will need to offer something that no other site is currently offering, or you will need to do the same thing that an already popular site does, but in a more impressive or valuable way. Simply put, people want content with value.
So, how to build a blog to success? Below are the 4 basic steps:
1. Pinpoint a particular niche that you are well equipped (or at least are passionate about) to fill.
2. Look at other blogs/bloggers that have successfully captured a large readership, learn from them and see if you can ‘copy’ some of their strategies and apply to your own blog.
3. Let the world know about your blog. Increase your blog exposure. This can be done in several ways, which will be discussed at a later stage. (This is also the step that I need to do for this blog.)
4. Infuse your personality into your blog by lending your own voice and sensibility to it. This will give your blog a unique and attractive ‘personality’, which will attract the blogging community and readers in general.
In conclusion, a great idea just isn’t enough to propel your blog to success in the long term. You will need to come up with a realistic marketing plan in order to draw readers to your site, including constantly creating great content to keep your readers coming back.
